12.1 Number of weeks of paid maternity leave

Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the maternity leave options available to employees:

15-20 weeks-- Varies as per groups (It is in accordance with QPIP, but if employee have the EI plan then its 15 weeks). Collective agreement and HR Policies have them. Concordia gives an additional two weeks to some groups, on top of the 18, but doesn’t exceed 20 weeks. Part time faculty don’t get this leave.

Every group has specific long term leaves as per their union's collective aggreement but in geenral everyone gets 2 days off as per the Quebec rules.

If the employee has been with the employer for at least 3 months, the first 2 days of absence for any of the following reasons are paid:
- non-work-related illness or accident

- family obligations as a caregiver (https://www.cnesst.gouv.qc.ca/fr/conditions-travail/statuts-particuliers/proches-aidants) to a family member or another person whose state of health so requires
- organ or tissue donation (https://www.cnesst.gouv.qc.ca/fr/conge-pour-don-dorganes-tissus)
- non-work-related illness or accident
- domestic or sexual violence(https://www.cnesst.gouv.qc.ca/fr/victimes-violence-conjugale-caractere-sexuel) or a criminal act(https://www.cnesst.gouv.qc.ca/fr/victimes-dacte-criminel)
The employee is entitled to a total of 2 paid days of absence per calendar year (January 1 to December 31). These days cannot be carried over from one year to the next, nor replaced by an indemnity.
