A brief description of the policies and/or programs:
The University provides several multimedia video-conferencing and facilities and studios that are accessible to all faculty and students. The Columbia community is then able to engage with other institutions, attend conferences, and meetings without having to travel.
Additionally, individual departments and groups have hosted conferences at the University that offer the option to purchase carbon offsets as part of attendee participation. Additionally departments at Columbia have been creative in their approach on seeking carbon offset funds, such as the International Sustainable Development Research Conference (ISDRC) goal of being a carbon-neutral event by seeking carbon offset conference sponsors In addition to neutralize participant air travel and other key greenhouse gas emissions. Academic departments at Columbia have also been very supportive of live streaming conferences and meetings to reduce travel to and from the University especially for large global events like State of the Planet.
