There is a concerted effort to recycle, donate or otherwise recover construction materials as part of the Colorado State University's commitment to making all new buildings LEED Gold or better. Most LEED projects will include a Construction Waste Management Plan to guide the team’s waste reduction efforts.

Furthermore, Colorado State University has a goal to divert at least 70% of materials from the landfill when demolishing buildings that have exceeded their useful life, to make way for more efficient and functional buildings.
