Third Point of Distinction
Humanitarian Engineering Degree Program
A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
The mission of this program is to educate engineers to serve communities by collaboratively identifying problems and providing solutions that are just, socially responsible, and sustainable. Examples of senior design projects can be found in a 2019 HE newsletter, including a capstone design for a public restroom to be installed along the Everest Base Camp Trail in rural Nepal. With 40,000 tourists per year, this region also experiences a high volume of human waste that is threatening the local environment and is a risk to public health.
