Does the institution have a bicycle-sharing program or participate in a local bicycle-sharing program?:
No

A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:

We tried a bicycle sharing program in partnership with the City of Golden and OFO bikes. Unfortunately, OFO discontinued the program because of the hilly terrain and smaller population of Golden. The company stated they needed a larger population to make the economics work. Their bikes were also not optimal for hilly terrain. Most of the students who bike to campus have their own bikes with many gears.

Does the institution participate in a car sharing program?:
Yes

A brief description of the car sharing program:

Mines has a partnership with Zipcar. There are 2 cars on campus for use by students or staff/faculty. For students, the $25 membership application fee is waived and students are given an 80% discount on annual membership. Mines also works with Turo, a car sharing program for personal vehicles.

Does the institution offer preferential parking or other incentives for fuel efficient vehicles?:
Yes

A brief description of the incentives for fuel efficient vehicles:

Mines offers students, faculty, and staff a 20% discount on annual parking passes for fuel efficient vehicles. Mines also offers preferential parking for EVs using the on-campus charging stations.

Does the institution have one or more Level 2 or Level 3 electric vehicle recharging stations that are accessible to student and employee commuters?:
Yes

A brief description of the electric vehicle recharging stations:

As of spring 2021, Mines has 10 electric vehicle charging stations on campus. Quite a few of them are Level II, dual port stations.

Does the institution have incentives or programs to encourage employees to live close to campus?:
No

A brief description of the incentives or programs to encourage employees to live close to campus:
---

Does the institution have other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting?:
Yes

A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:

Parking services allows students, faculty, and staff to purchase "car pool" parking passes. These passes allow commuters to split the cost of a parking pass as long as only one vehicle in the group is parked on campus. The Mines Green Team is working on a formal car pooling outreach program for students and plans to create a sign up app.

In addition, HR provides a discount on RTD passes for employees and faculty.
Mines’ Student Life Department offers students a RTD CollegePass. The CollegePass allows students to enjoy unlimited rides on RTD buses and light rails.

The Sustainability website/events encourages people to take the lightrail (RTD) and catch the City of Golden's Green Bus to campus. We are in the process of creating a "Sustainable Transportation" section to our Sustainability website.
