This emissions inventory was conducted using the EnergyCAP software, which tracks emissions based on utility bills, utility loads, and other financially traceable consumption. This emissions inventory was conducted by McKinstry, a third-party energy analysis company, and vetted by Mines Facilities Management.

The GHG inventory verification process was done through the corroboration of separate calculations of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by McKinstry, Sustainability Interns with the Sustainability Office, and Facilities Management.

In 2017, the university renovated an old heating plant on campus and started producing its own steam instead of importing steam from Coors in Golden, which used primarily coal to produce steam. The baseline year will show some imported steam because the new steam plant on campus became operational in about April 2017. After that, we did not import steam because we produced our own steam with 100% natural gas.
