Bachelor of Science in Ecosystem Science and Stewardship

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

The Bachelor of Science in Ecosystem Science & Stewardship gives you hands-on experience with expert faculty deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains as you train in the science and practice of mountain ecosystem stewardship. This degree prepares you for in-demand careers such as ecologists, foresters, hydrologists, wildlife biologists, and much more. This program will require you to integrate multiple scales of scientific inquiry, identify and engage diverse stakeholders, and translate scientific knowledge to action. Join us in our western mountains, waters, and forests, and experience firsthand the trade-offs between biodiversity conservation and human well-being in one of our regions' most ecologically important and fastest growing wildland-urban interfaces.

Associate of Science: Environmental Science Emphasis

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

Upon completing the Environmental Science Emphasis program, CMC students will be able to apply the scientific method to an environmental problem or scientific question, collect environmental data acquisition and formulate reporting methods, discuss and demonstrate an appreciation for how various aspects of the environment are utilized by humans and how humans impact the environment and be conversant in environmental systems and environmental lexicon.

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

The Sustainable Business Minor explores how an enterprise can, not only grow, but grow responsibly. Businesses that understand the interconnected systems of humans and the environment are equipped to adapt and thrive. This minor covers the E3s of Sustainability: economics, equity, and environment.

Sustainability Leadership Certificate

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):

Sustainability Leadership Certificate students will take three foundational courses and then choose two elective courses, which provide the certificate earner with an emphasis area. The electives can be chosen from a variety of areas within the Sustainability Studies Bachelor’s Degree, ranging from the natural sciences and humanities to the social sciences. These include, but are not limited to, sustainable food systems, sustainable economics, social entrepreneurship, environmental humanities, cultural equity, and ecology courses.

Geographic Information Systems Certificates

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):

Colorado Mountain College's GIS program combines field and classroom work to provide in-depth, practical experience using GIS tools, software, and community projects that prepare students to enter the GIS workforce. Students will learn mapping and spatial analysis skills with ESRI's ArcGIS, the dominant software in the GIS industry, and gain exposure to open-source tools, including QGIS and Google Earth Engine.


Additionally, students will use industry-standard GPS devices to collect, integrate, and analyze data from the field. Students pursuing the GIS certificate will complete projects with local conservation organizations, community groups, and government agencies. This project allows students to make real-world connections, utilize GIS / GPS in workplace settings, and build their project management and communication skills.
