A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
CC offers a variety of wellness programs for students. To begin, the Wellness Resource Center coordinates and integrates efforts to promote health and prevent health problems, including education of campus constituents on a range of wellness-related topics, such as healthy relationships, healthy sexual engagement, alcohol and other substance use and abuse, mental health and life balance. Furthermore, the Student Health Center offers students six counseling sessions free of charge.

The college offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees (faculty and staff) and their families. EAP provides free counseling to help individuals dealing with marital and parenting issues, anxiety and depression, chemical dependency and codependency, grief and loss, job stress, co-worker conflict, child and elder care, etc. Financial and legal services, identity theft, fraud resources, and referral services are also available at discounted rates. Employees have additional access to a suite of benefits and wellness events throughout the year, with topics ranging from “Wellness Bingo to “Take control of your financial life: 5 steps to managing money and debt”.

Other wellness offerings include annual biometric health screenings, health assessments with resources for taking action, annual flu shots, presentations on a range of topics like nutrition, physical fitness, stress reduction, personal financial planning, sense of place (as part of our professional development program), etc. Employees and dependents have access to our onsite fitness center and we have two employees trained in basic ergonomic evaluations.

Colorado College is committed to providing an environment for students, faculty, staff, contractors, and guests that is conducive to learning and working, and that promotes the health and well being of all members of the community. While the use of tobacco is a personal choice, the health hazards related to smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke are well-documented. In the interests of reducing harm from tobacco use and second-hand smoke, providing an environment that encourages persons to be tobacco-free, reducing long-term health-care costs, and promoting a campus culture of wellness, Colorado College has established a smoke and tobacco-free policy.

This year as part of our focus on mental health we added a QPR training requirement (question, persuade, refer) to help employees recognize and perhaps intervene in suicide attempts. Employees are expected to complete the online training before the end of February 2023.
