Colorado College Carbon Neutral 2020

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:

Colorado College committed to carbon neutrality by 2020 in 2009 and has achieved that milestone as of January 1, 2020. Through building renovations, adoption of 100% renewable energy on-site and locally, the construction of a Net-zero energy/carbon library, and efficiency projects, the college has reduced on-site (scopes 1 and 2) emissions by 75%, while also mitigating its business travel, student, faculty, and staff commuting, solid waste, waste water, and paper purchasing with investments in off-site projects that actively remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Colorado College's Antiracism Initiative

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:

Colorado College has committed to becoming an Antiracist Institution. In November, 2019 the college released their first draft of the school's Antiracism Implementation Plan. This is a living document and the plan will evolve as the College adds expertise, welcomes new community members, and implements new initiatives.

Colorado College has also recently joined the Racial Equity Leadership Aliance which was formed by a cohort of siz higher education instituations who aim to address racial inequties at liberal arts colleges.

Colorado College's Antiracism Initiative: Recent Progress
- Launched an external review of racism at CC
- Established the Antiracism Implementation Plan
- Reviewing Pathfinder, Faculty Handbook, and collegewide policies to make policies antiracist
- Awarded honorary degrees to 18 people of color (45% of all honorary degrees awarded May 2012-August 2019)
- Received $1 million gift from Board Chair Susie Burghart '77 dedicated to accelerating CC's antiracism work
