A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The Butler Center engages the entire CC campus in the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Intercultural Exchange, and Empowerment. While the primary services of the Butler Center are student facing, the center engages faculty and staff in capacity building activities and learning that empowers them to help positively shape the student experience. The Butler Center facilitates inclusive learning through holistic mentoring, dialogues, educational initiatives, and community building activities.
Diversity Equity Advisory Board advises the President on all Diversity and Equity matters related to faculty and staff. The DEAB collects data and discusses policies and practices that may help the college pursue Diversity and Equity for faculty and staff.

The Butler Center offers workshops upon request and organizes cultural competence activities related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, and age. Additionally, the Butler Center offers programming for staff and faculty to deepen individuals' understanding of "diversity" and "inclusion" as a necessary step to achieve excellence at CC. This program is entitled Good to Great: the journey to inclusion at CC. The Butler Center also offers Safe Zone Trainings. These are sessions that give students, staff, and faculty basic understanding of LGBTQIA+ ally-ship. By the end of the training, participants are (1) knowledgeable of basic queer terminology, (2) aware of the unique challenges that many in the queer community face, and (3) prepared to start making their environments safe, open, and inclusive to all students.
Colorado College has also committed to becoming an antiracist institution and has created an Antiracism Implementation Plan. The goals are as follows:
- Make diversity, equity and inclusion central to college leadership
- Establish antiracism, equity, and inclusion as foundational to our community expectations
- Invest in student antiracism resources and efforts
- Support and engage all faculty and staff in antiracism work
- Make antiracism a central value in CC’s academic and cocurricular programs
- Increase compositional diversity of CC community
- Make antiracism central to CC’s communication
