A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
The Green Event initiative is meant to challenge CC students and community members to think of the environment when planning and executing events on campus. Events that are funded by the Colorado College Student Government Association (CCSGA)and are over $5,000, must be certified as a Green Event. The criteria which is built with student events in mind, but can easily be tweaked for community events that are certified. The criteria is broken into 3 categories: GE Responsible Catering (Bon Apétit or Outside Vendors), GE Zero Waste Education, GE Funded by CCSGA.
Waste Criteria:
- Arrange for recycling and compost bins at the event
- Print event materials using 2 sided print
- Print event materials using recycled/recyclable materials
- Have a volunteer stand by the trash bins to guide waste diversion
- Use reusable cloth tablecloths
- Collect and reuse name tag holders
- Send out invitations and reminders by email

Food & Drink Criteria:
- Use reusable or compostable dishware
- Request Bon Appetit catering options that meet "Real Food" criteria or select an external catering option from our pre-approved list
- Avoid serving red meat or unsustainable-sourced seafood
- Choose food items that can be consumed without utensils (finger food)
- Address food waste by posting extras on CC’s "Food Finder" page
- Serve beverages in bulk coolers or pitchers instead of individual cans or bottles and use reusable or compostable cups
- Avoid the use of unnecessary products (coffee stirrers, straws, toothpicks, etc.)

Funded by CCSGA:
- Any event that is receiving over $5,000 in funds from CCSGA MUST be certified as a Green Event.
