The Butler Center
The Butler Center provides a variety of programmatic initiatives for student development and support, and currently advises 15 student organizations whose missions align with principles of social justice. The Butler Center invests in the cultivation of an inclusive campus community where the differences and similarities of every individual and community are valued and explored through learning, mentoring, holistic advising, facilitating dialogues, and providing a myriad of community-building activities. The Butler Center intentionally interrogates our shared beliefs, practices, and systems toward inclusive and equitable outcomes at Colorado College.
The Diversity and Equity Advisory Board serves as an advisory group to the President of the College and the Cabinet on all matters related to diversity and equity regarding staff and faculty. The board promotes and nurtures an inclusive campus culture that values different backgrounds, experiences, ideas and opinions, recognizing the various intersections of identities that make up the CC community. Its work helps ensure that the College addresses on a continuing basis all of the possible implications of the protections as stated in its anti-discrimination policy statement.

The Butler Center offers workshops upon request and organizes cultural competence activities related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, and age. Additionally, the Butler Center offers programming for staff and faculty to deepen individuals' understanding of "diversity" and "inclusion" as a necessary step to achieve excellence at CC. This program is entitled Good to Great: the journey to inclusion at CC. The Butler Center also offers Safe Zone Trainings. These are sessions that give students, staff, and faculty basic understanding of LGBTQIA+ ally-ship. By the end of the training, participants are (1) knowledgeable of basic queer terminology, (2) aware of the unique challenges that many in the queer community face, and (3) prepared to start making their environments safe, open, and inclusive to all students. Additionally, in the past year, The Butler Center has provided a new 4-hour module entitled “Toward a Daily Anti-Racist Agenda.” Over 200 faculty and staff members have already participated in these session.
