A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
The complete list of courses from Summer 2015 through Spring 2016 was received from the Registrar. All faculty were asked to self-identify courses, those courses with promising titles or descriptions were also contacted directly. Many self-identified courses were without descriptions, so additional review and validation came in the form of requesting descriptions. The definitions used for the survey are as follows.
Sustainability focused courses are explicitly focused on sustainability as a concept having social, economic, and environmental dimensions, and/or focused on understanding or solving a sustainability challenge.
Courses that include sustainability applications are not primarily focused on sustainability but include units or lessons on sustainability or a sustainability challenge, incorporate one or more sustainability-focused activity, or integrate sustainability issues throughout the course.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each offering or section of a course was counted as an individual course
