A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:
In fall 2009 the college engaged an external engineering firm to conduct a capacity study and plant review to help guide future investment in this critical infrastructure. From that report and with the input of the power plant staff the institution will determine whether or not to upgrade/expand the plant by adding more boilers, to move to a more distributed heating system, to invest in geothermal or solar thermal technology for planned new construction, and to consider other options. There is a Sustainability Council that will continue to implement various sustainable practices on campus, while also assisting the Sustainability Office. This institution plans to be carbon neutral by 2035 using various financing and educational opportunities to do so throughout the next few years.
