A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):
Eco-Reps are students interested in educating other peers to live responsibly but on campus and throughout life through peer to peer interaction. These students must possess skills to be creative to create programs that promote conservation, sustainability and community. These representatives must also use education as means to influence and changes lifestyle habits of students. Representatives are required to conduct audits, meet with Resident Advisers, write articles, plan events and collaborate with others to promote sustainability in first-year residence halls.

Eco-Reps are required to attend training at the beginning of the semester. This outlines their responsibilities for the semester including what events will take place and what they are required to do. They are also required to attend site visits at the campus power plan, waste plant and solar field to better their understanding of sustainability in relation to campus.

Eco-Reps work directly with Residence Advisors and Residence Directors. They provide ideas for events within their floors and access to the students that are the focus of this peer to peer interaction. They also work directly with sustainability fellows on campus to provide information, ideas and guidance. Representatives are also paid a $400 stipend per semester from a grant.
