Campus Farm and Apiary
A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
The College of Lake County hosts 1.5 acre Campus Farm that includes 2 fields for crop rotation and 2 hoophouses for season growing extension. The campus farm manager supports students in sustainable agriculture programs. Food grown on campus is sold at a weekly farm market and sold to the college for food preparation and consumption. Students and community members often visit the farm to learn about local food production. Coffee grounds are composted at the farm, along with landscape waste to enrich soils. The farm apiary is managed by staff, students and community volunteers who tend to the bees and produce honey for sale on campus.
