Members of the Environmental Action Committee (EAC) volunteers help cafe patrons to properly sort trash, recycling and compost waste. Our food service estimates that it serves 800 people a week, about 300 unduplicated patrons.
A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
At the beginning of the semester, staff faculty and students in the cafe are often confused about what parts of their waste can go into trash, recycling, or compost. This is also an attempt to boost awareness about proper waste sorting at the college.

Reduce, Recycle, and Compost - Staff Dev
A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
Two employees volunteer during staff development week to learn about proper waste sorting. Sustainability staff provide examples of items that go into the trash vs. recycling and offer a game to make the process more engaging. Attendees can win reusable coffee mugs or lunch containers from the food service vendor. WE bring in a worm farm to show attendees what it looks and smells like to have worms compost food scraps. We talk about the benefits of worm castings for gardens.
A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (2nd program):
About 30 faculty and staff attend the staff development week session on recycling and composting each semester. Human Resources provides the forum for this lunch and learn each semester.
