Reduce, Recycle, and Compost
A brief description of the campaign:
CLC has been continuing its Reduce, Recycle, and Compost outreach campaign geared toward decreasing the amount of solid waste going toward our landfills.
At the beginning of the semester or on America Recycles Day, students and staff work together to educate students in the commons area about how to recycle correctly and the need to reduce the use of plastic bags.
CLC began offering its new composting program in January 2017. Students serve as ambassadors of the composting program in the cafe, educating students and staff about what items should be composted and which should be sorted for recycling and trash.
CLC developed its own signage to assist students and staff with making good decisions about which items go into trash or recycling. Signage was designed to be more clear and explicit, using color coding and photo images of items often used on campus to help clarify the guidelines.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
CLC conducts an annual waste audit in the spring of each year. When we compared the March 2015 audit with the March 2018 audit, the percentage of recycling increased by 2.1% and the compost program also helped to divert an estimated 1,476 lbs. of food scraps from the landfill. The 2019 audit revealed a setback in our recycling rates that is leading the college to further outreach and education.

Sust'y eBlast
A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
CLC sends out its biweekly Sust'y eBlast to all faculty and staff. This e-newsletter provides news about sustainability initiatives at the college. Often, faculty and staff write their own eBlast to share their own stories about what they are doing to contribute to sustainability at the college and in the community. We are Sustainable at CLC!
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Impacts are not recorded but staff and faculty share how they like to read some good news about ways that individuals or the college is working to be more sustainable.
