Environmental Club
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
CLC's Environmental Club choose its own peer-to-peer outreach activities throughout the year. This year, they led a presentation on ethylene oxide (EtO) use in the region, the dangers, and how students can get involved. This was a student led presentation, but we had a community organizer available on speaker phone to answer questions that students had. Students gave presentations on water pollution, the forest fires in Brazil, and recycling. The students made organic, vegan pancakes at the meeting and had a presentation on the impacts of agriculture and how our food choices can impact the environment. They volunteered to paint rocks for the Japanese garden. The club hosted a campus clean-up day last fall, which attracted about 15 students. The club organized the Mr. Lancer competition last semester, a male talent show, that raised money for teamtrees.org, a social media campaign which raised enough money to plant over 21 million trees last year. The club showed two environmentally related movies (The Lorax and Wall-E) last semester.
