The Community Partners for Sustainability in Lake County seeks to promote environmental resilience, social responsibility, and economic vitality.

Given our common need for finite natural resources, sustainability is the practice of seeking to thrive in a way that does not diminish future generations’ ability to flourish.

Representatives from business, non-profits, education, local government, and the community seek to accelerate sustainability initiatives across Lake County through education, the sharing of best practices, undertaking collaborative efforts, fostering civic engagement, disseminating information, and celebrating successes.

The Lake County Green is a conference hosted by the College of Lake County each spring. This annual conference started as a Green Town conference 2009, organized by a5 and Seven Generations Ahead. Since then the College of Lake County and Lake County government have been responsible for coordinating the event planning with committees local community partners. The Lake County Green brings in regionally based speakers to highlight connections between local action and global issues, such as stormwater management and climate change.

A brief description of the institution’s other community partnerships to advance sustainability:

For the second year, the College of Lake County is collaborating with community groups to participated in events such as the One Earth Film Festival in March. These films highlight sustainability issues and opportunities. The films of the festival take place across the Chicago region. CLC is working with local non-profits to promote the growth of the festival here in Lake County. Last year, CLC hosted films had the largest attendance of the different regional clusters.
