CLC offers sustainability-focused immersive programs of study with the Explore the Appalachian Trail, Hike in the Black Hills, Costa Rica and other field study courses, in which CLC instructors integrate travel experiences with courses such as biology, geology, history, physical education, and English writing for students.

In addition to providing education in the classroom, lecture hall, and laboratory, CLC faculty members also direct field study. A variety of biology, geology, history and humanities courses make the Rocky Mountains, Europe, Asia, or Latin America their classrooms. Many of these field study experiences challenge students to consider social, environmental, and economic aspects of sustainability.
