Sustainability Chain of Custody and Tracking for Biomass Energy
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Colgate University created an institution-specific ticketing system to track the procurement of woodchips for biomass energy. Colgate has a large biomass plant that meets roughly 50% of the university's heating needs. We found that it was necessary to ensure that our woodchips were coming from sustainably-managed sources, so the ticketing system was created. This will help to ensure that our woodchips are in line with our sustainability principles and will allow us to determine exactly where our biomass is coming from and the operations behind their practices.
