Up East Foundation Partnership
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Colby has partnered with the Up East Foundation to allow students the opportunity to conduct research on Allen Island in conjunction with the Herring Gut Learning Center in Port Clyde. The goals of this collaboration is for students from all disciplines, from the humanities to hard sciences, to be able to participate in research on the island. A documentary film class, a geology class, and an American Studies class have already used the island for research since the partnership was formed in October, 2016. The partnership will also provide opportunities for local students to conduct research and work at Herring Gut, and collaborate with Colby faculty researchers and students. This partnership is innovative due to the inclusive and widespread nature, as well as the unique opportunity it affords both Colby students and the Maine community.
