Colby is involved in a small cohort of institutions that have begun using the Nitrogen Footprint calculator to track our nitrogen footprint. We are in the second round of participants and have attended the conference for the past three years, except for the summer of 2017 due to the turnover in the Sustainability Office, to share our data and collaborate with institutions who are already tracking their footprint, and coach those who wish to.

Colby submitted a case study to the EPA Food Recovery Challenge and received recognition for having a significant increase in food waste diversion.

Colby's Sustainability Coordinator served as on the Energy and Atmosphere Technical Advisory Group for the United States Green Building Council from 2010 - 2016, and was chair for the last year and a half of his term. The Director of Sustainability also is a member of the board of directors of Sustain Mid Maine, a local non-profit.

Colby is very open to collaboration with other universities, answering questions posed through our Sustainability Office email account and helping guide the installation of Colby programs at other institutions, or helping guide other institutions through the reporting process for sustainability submissions. One example is our collaboration with Bowdoin to compete against them in the Dorm Electricity Competition in spring 2017 where both schools saved energy.
