Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
It is challenging task to track student community service. The following data form the 2010-2011 academic year are from Colby’s primary civic engagement activities: civic engagement courses with community projects, mentoring through Colby Cares About Kids (CCAK), projects through the Colby Volunteer Center. It does not include many hours of service that athletic teams and campus clubs contribute, therefore we believe this greatly under-reports the true contributions of Colby students to the community. #Students Hours Academic 471 5,664 CCAK – regular wkly 370 17,760 CVC - regular wkly 181 2,100 CVC (5) one-time 1,096 5,100 Students taking civic engagement courses and those involved in one-time volunteer events are likely some of the same individuals that are already volunteers in the regular weekly programs; if we assume that 25% of the students involved in the civic engagement courses and one-time activities are also volunteers in one of the regular weekly programs, the total number of volunteers would be 1727.
