: Eight of the Colby faculty listed above are involved in the Belgrade Lakes Watershed Sustainability Project, where Colby faculty and students are collaborating with conservation organizations, area lake associations, and faculty and students from the University of Maine system to form interdisciplinary teams with stakeholder participation to understand the impact of landscape and lake-ecosystem changes in the development of central Maine. The Belgrade Lakes region is being used as a model because it provides a unique laboratory to understand the complex dynamics between environmental, biogeochemical, and socio- economic systems. This work is funded through a National Science Foundation, Maine EPSCoR grant and is part of Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative.
