The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Coastal Carolina University offers a rich and evolving array of courses, lectures, clubs, excursions and special activities, led by Coastal faculty, both active and retired as well as scholars, and experts from the surrounding communities. Members from all walks of life bring a lifetime of experience to the classroom and our activities.

OLLI at Coastal Carolina University offers a wide range of courses in the fall, spring and summer. We also sponsor clubs (e.g., bridge club, book club, gardening club), offer excursions (e.g., a ‘Spy Tour’ to Washington, DC), and volunteer opportunities. We also are the sponsor or co-sponsor of events and lecture series on the campus of the University (e.g., the Latin American Film Series, Fall 2021).

Sustainability inclusive course:

How Do You Get Your Electricity?
This course will cover the fundamentals of how the electricity grid operates. Students will learn how generators, transmission, distribution, and consumers play a role in the grid. This course will also cover voltage, current, and power at a conceptual level. At the end of this course, students will understand how electricity is generated, how it gets to your house, and why there are blackouts.

Part 2. Sustainability-focused certificate program

A brief description of the certificate program(s):
The Certificate in Sustainability provides degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students with the opportunity to gain and use knowledge and skills in the multi-disciplinary facets of sustainability to develop analytical and reflective tools for personal and professional development. The certificate in sustainability program is designed to offer students an integrated interdisciplinary structure to develop diverse competencies and tools for fields in both public and private sectors, including energy, education, corporate, government and nongovernment, and international.

Degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students and non-degree seeking students at Coastal Carolina University are eligible for the certificate. Students must declare their intention to pursue the certificate with their academic adviser.
