CCU has been a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education since 2006.

In February 2022, CCU also joined the University Global Coalition (UGC). The UGC is comprised of universities and other higher education organizations committed to working together to raise campus awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), both locally and globally.

University Global Coalition SDG Action and Awareness Week
In Spring 2022, a CCU faculty and Ph.D. student presented during the 2022 University Global Coalition Action and Awareness Week. These presentations were streamed and the links were also shared with the CCU campus community. Below is a description of their presentations:

Monday, Feb. 28: "Youth Development as the Cornerstone of Sustainable Development"
Presenter: Michelle Dzurenda
Description: This talk will focus on our UNSDG Youth Corps as part of our UN Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development in Georgetown in partnership with the Bunnelle Foundation.  The presentation will give an overview of the program, 4 student presentations on their work in professional careers and how they apply to sustainable development in Georgetown County, SC with a conclusion by CCU Ph.D. Student Michelle Dzurenda and her thoughts on building youth leadership through education for sustainable development. Covers goals: 4, 8, 11, 13.

“Mapping the Gap: Visualizing Food Resources Needs to Address Community Food Insecurity.”
Presenters: Anthony Setari and Michelle Dzurenda
Anthony Setari and Michelle Dzurenda will talk about their grant funded project in Georgetown County as part of our UN Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development in Georgetown, SC on food insecurity and a collective impact initiative to improve the gaps.

Jeremy Monday, Senior Director for Sustain Coastal, served as Co-Chair for Keep Horry County Beautiful from 2017-2021.

RCE Georgetown mentored RCE Atlanta (11 universities in the greater ATL region) and RCE Dallas (UT Arlington system).

A brief description of the peer review activities:
Dr. Pam Martin also reviewed RCE Puerto Rico’s application, which was ultimately approved by the UN Ubuntu Commission.
