Part 1. Hazardous waste minimization and disposal

A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, special (e.g. coal ash), universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
We work with multiple Departments on campus to make sure the chemicals we are using are safe and any projects being conducted that would produce large amounts of waste have to be reviewed and are either not approved or modified to reduce the waste.

For disposal we work with companies that are licensed to transport and dispose of waste and track it through a manifest form.

We do keep inventory of the chemicals on campus, sometimes we do reuse or redistribute, but due to the small amount of waste we generate it's not common.

We promote waste reduction and chemical substitution to less harmful chemicals in Laboratory Safety Training (EHS #2007) and Hazardous Communication (EHS # 2006) to applicable staff.

We have Sustainability Department who collects and disposes of batteries and our Procurement Warehouse collects bigger electronic items such as computers, keyboards, mouses, etc.
Sustain Coastal provides electronic recycling bins in all academic, administrative and athletic buildings on campus. All items are delivered to the central receiving warehouse on campus where items are sent to Intelligent Lifecycle Solutions who then recycle the e-waste.
