A brief description of the graduate-level degree program:
The Master of Arts in Environmental Studies degree at the Levin College of Urban Affairs is part of a campus-wide interdisciplinary initiative that offers students in environmental studies, environmental science and environmental engineering the opportunity to interact and learn in a cross-disciplinary setting.
The Master of Arts in Environmental Studies Program prepares students for careers in environmental policy and management while providing students with a broad, interdisciplinary course of study. Developing and managing human institutions, organizations and behaviors that restore, protect, and sustain the environment requires careful study of both natural and human systems and their interdependence. This task is at the core of an environmental studies degree program.
Curricular Goals
1. Students will have a core knowledge base in biology, environmental physics, and environmental engineering
2. Students will understand the institutional and organizational context in which environmental policies and decisions are made and implemented through law, regulation, and administrative and financial practices
3. Students will understand the processes of public policy decision making, including the links between scientific research and environmental policy and inter-organizational relationships
4. Students will be able to design a policy-based applied research project, collect and analyze scientific and other data using electronic technology, and pursue
results using a variety of methods and techniques relevant for environmental policy and management;
5. Students will be able to specialize in public decision making-related domains positively affecting the environment

A brief description of the graduate degree program (2nd program):
The combined curriculum leading to the degrees of Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Environmental Science is designed to permit the student to complete both degrees over four years instead of the five years that would normally be required to complete the two degrees separately.
The Juris Doctor requirements are fulfilled by the completion of 80 credit hours of work in the College of Law, including all required courses and 10 semester credit hours from courses cross-listed with the College of Science (Thesis Course), 2-3 credits from a Technical Writing Course (ENG 509 in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences), and one additional course taken in the College of Science. The Master of Science in Environmental Science requirements are fulfilled by the completion of the following: 1) 24 credit hours of course work, including all required courses, concentration electives and field experience from courses in the College of Science, any required interdisciplinary core competency courses (2-3 credits of Technical Writing, e.g. ENG 509, and 3 credits from a course in Environmental Technology taken in the College of Engineering), and 3 credits from a course in Environmental Law taken in the College of Law, and 2) 8 semester credit hours for a Thesis project (EVS/BIO 691/695), bringing the minimum total number of credits required for the MSES degree to 32.

A brief description of the graduate degree program (3rd program):
The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering degree is offered through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Washkewicz College of Engineering. This program represents the engineering component of the cross-disciplinary, environmental academic studies program at Cleveland State University.
Although this program is designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, non-engineering graduates also can take advantage of this program.
Faculty research and publications reflect areas in which students may conduct their theses or project investigations. Faculty research areas include adsorption, waste-site remediation, pollution prevention, green manufacturing, industrial waste treatment, brownfields, air-pollutant control, biological treatment processes, waste recycle and reuse, solid-waste engineering, physiochemical treatment processes, soil decontamination, combustion-process emissions, energy conversions, risk assessment, environmental policy, and real-time environmental monitoring.

The Master of Science degree in Environmental Science is offered by the Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences (BGES) as one of three interdisciplinary graduate programs in the Environmental Studies Program at Cleveland State. The degree program prepares students for a wide range of professional careers that require knowledge of biology, chemistry, or earth sciences in order to address environmental issues.

The Graduate Certificate in Global Sustainable Business Practices prepares students with knowledge and skills to integrate sustainable business practices across all areas of a business. The Certificate is intended to prepare a new generation of leaders and practitioners with the skills and tools necessary to lead competitive yet sustainable business practices in today's global market place.
The proposed graduate certification program will:
