Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
Data collection began by searching the 2023-2024 Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog for course descriptions that include sustainability, environmental, green, conservation, ecology, etc.
Read through all course descriptions and categorized each course as sustainability-focused, sustainability-inclusive, or neither.
From there, I reviewed all courses in programs that include “sustainability” in the program description. We also reviewed the courses in the Environmental Science and Policy (minor) and Sustainability (minor).
The programs identified as addressing sustainability in their program descriptions were as follows: Biosystems Engineering (BS); Environmental Engineering (BS), Food Science and Human Nutrition (BS), Geology (BS), Construction Science and Management (BS), Horticulture (BS), and Plant and Environmental Sciences (BS).
I listed courses under multiple departments as many times as departments they are a part of.
Example: FOR 4510: Biosystems Engineering Seminar, is also listed as BE 4510: Biosystems Engineering Seminar and EES 4510: Biosystems Engineering Seminar. So, it is counted 3 times in the inventory list.
I listed courses that are offered as both 4000 and 6000 (undergraduate and graduate) level courses twice.
Example: ECON 4570: Environmental Economics is also a course for graduate students listed as ECON 6570: Environmental Economics
I did not include lab regimens that are attached to courses.
I also did not include internships, practicums, independent study, special topics, thesis / dissertation, clinical, physical education, or performance arts courses
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
