A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
Engagement with faculty and staff through workshops and trainings about how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals relate to their work in campus academics or operations. Representatives from all departments on campus were invited (and most departments participated) in workshops about the SDGs and relating those goals back to their work here at Clarkson. Specific workshops were offered for faculty where they could think about their course offerings and research in the context of the SDGs. These faculty workshops were well attended with dozens of participants. Many one on one discussions were held with faculty using a team of volunteers to further spread this message of broad sustainability through our academic programs. Impacts from this effort include that the HR department has agreed to including sustainability in both job descriptions and performance evaluations and they are currently working on these initiatives. The campus administration has also included sustainability as defined by the SDGs into the campus strategic framework as one of only 4 pillars. The successes from these workshops and meetings are highlighted in the weekly newsletter.
The employee educators for this program were faculty and staff from the ISE including Dr. Susan Powers, Director of the Institute for a Sustainable Environment, and Alex French, Assistant Director of Sustainability.
