A brief description of the green building rating system(s) used and/or a list of certified buildings and ratings:

LEED used as the best system for our buildings. In past years, three buildings have been certified: Gold - Beacon Institute's Center for Environmental Innovation and Education (CEIE) (4000 sq. ft.; 2013); Gold - Technology Advancement Center (15,080 sq.ft.); Silver - Student Center (48,462). The Building and design standards call for all new buildings and major renovations to be built to LEED silver standards, even if not formally certified. Clarkson maintains its own Environmental Standards document for ALL new construction.

Floor area of newly constructed or renovated building space that is NOT certified, but that was designed and constructed in accordance with published green building guidelines and policies:

Do the green building guidelines or policies cover the following?:
Yes or No
Impacts on the surrounding site (e.g. guidelines to reuse previously developed land, protect environmentally sensitive areas, and otherwise minimize site impacts) Yes
Energy consumption (e.g. policies requiring a minimum level of energy efficiency for buildings and their systems) Yes
Building-level energy metering Yes
Use of environmentally preferable materials (e.g. guidelines to minimize the life cycle impacts associated with building materials) Yes
Indoor environmental quality (i.e. guidelines to protect the health and comfort of building occupants) Yes
Water consumption (e.g. requiring minimum standards of efficiency for indoor and outdoor water use) Yes
Building-level water metering Yes

A brief description of the green building guidelines or policies and/or a list or sample of buildings covered:

(date was most recent revision)
Environmental standards apply to all phases of project initiation, design and construction
Goal is to build to LEED Silver, & follow water use requirements of 1992 Energy Policy act: New buildings and significant renovations shall look to achieve at least a 20% energy reduction from ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1 -2013 (see details in Sustainability Planning)
All construction meets to these standards but were not LEED certified

A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:

All new campus buildings and major renovations of existing campus building spaces are designed in accordance with green building guidelines to produce energy savings, lower the environmental impact, while producing a quality indoor environment. All new campus buildings and major renovation designs incorporate the latest lighting technology including LED parking and walkway lights, energy recovery systems, electronic water conserving control systems, high efficiency motors and VFD controls where applicable, and the building automation control and monitoring systems. Building envelope systems utilize high performance insulating materials and systems including high performance windows and roofing systems.

Review teams, including all stakeholders, are convened for every major renovation or construction project. These teams are the drivers for following the standards. The clerk-of-the-works is ultimately responsible for implementing the standard practices during construction.
