Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

*Clarkson has advocated to have the town and village governments of Potsdam pass resolutions to become Climate Smart Communities (CSC). As a result both municipalities signed onto, and are actively working within, the program. This is a sustainability initiative designed by the Department of Environmental Conservation of New York to help municipalities. This will enable Potsdam to have access to more NYS grants and it is synergistic with our growing resilience efforts. In addition Clarkson works with the town and village to advocate for more specific actions such as complete streets projects, converting street lights to LED, etc.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

President Collins has been advocating for clean water initiatives in New York State. That resulted in a mention in the January 2019 State of the State address and increase in research related to healthy waters.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the national level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:

President Collins signed the "We Are Still In" initiative to support the Paris Agreement.

In December of 2018 President Collins signed a letter to support climate action in congress in response to the 4th National Climate Assessment.

In August of 2018 President Collins signed a letter to support vehicle fuel efficiency standards at the national level. This was in response to the EPA and DOT announcement to drastically change the CAFE standards.

Discussions - mostly at state gov't level related to:
* need for mitigation and resilience action for climate change
* adequate financial aid to enable equitable access for all to higher education
* improved cultural acceptance in the region (especially students who are of color or Muslim), including at US-Canada border crossing
* need for clean and local energy development as part of our region's economic development
