3.1 Student participation in governance
Narrative and/or website URL outlining the ongoing bodies through which students can democratically participate in the governance of the institution:
The Board of Visitors, per its bylaws (Article IV, Section 11), invites student committee representatives to attend meetings and inform them of relevant issues.
Additionally, Christopher Newport University has a Student Government Association in which elected students represent student needs and concerns by partnering with the administration.
Finally, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee has four Strategic Priority Goal Groups that are include students.

The Student Government Association President is a Student Representative on the Board of Visitors per its bylaws (Article II, Section 4). The Board of Visitors also includes an Alumni Representative.

3.2 Academic staff participation in governance

The Board of Visitors, per its bylaws (Article IV, Section 11), invites faculty committee representatives to attend meetings and inform them of relevant issues.
Additionally, Christopher Newport University has a Faculty Senate in which elected faculty represent the faculty in the consideration of university policies that impact the academic environment and affect the welfare of the university. The faculty senate meets regularly with the deans, provost, and president to discuss issues and present the viewpoints and perspectives of the faculty to senior members of the university’s leadership team.
Finally, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee includes numerous academic staff.
