Center for Sustainability in Education
The mission of the Center for Sustainability in Education is to embed sustainability in the academic lives of students, faculty, and staff. We do this by creating and supporting opportunities to learn about sustainability
through coursework, research, workshops, co-curricular activities, and civic engagement. We engage the campus as a living, learning lab model for students to explore, understand, and apply more sustainable solutions to climate issues.

Does the institution have at least one organized research center, institute, or equivalent unit focused on a subject other than sustainability that produces sustainability research?:
Yes

List and description of the institution’s research units focused on subjects other than sustainability that produce sustainability research:

Center for American Studies
Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies promotes undergraduate and faculty research on America’s founding principles and history, economic foundations, and national security to promote sensible notions of political liberty, economic liberty, and civic responsibility.

Center for Crime, Equity, and Justice Research and Policy

The Center for Crime, Equity, and Justice Research and Policy brings together students and faculty with local and state leaders and experts to conduct meaningful research projects, and to produce policy recommendations related to crime, equity, and justice.

Students will complete projects that enhance their liberal arts education by demonstrating how their research skills and content knowledge can be used to address crime, justice, and equity issues facing Virginians.

Center for Education Research and Policy

The Center for Education Research and Policy (CERP) brings together researchers from across the university to address critical questions related to education, inequality, and social change. Our mission is to conduct rigorous research on the most enduring issues for Virginia and the nation and to use this research to inform educators and policymakers about best practices needed to advance educational reform.

Reiff Center
The Reiff Center for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution at Christopher Newport University is dedicated to raising awareness of the horrors of genocide, human rights violations, and conflict and studying ways to overcome these by examining the international and national application of human rights, conflict resolution, and peace studies.

Wason Center

The Wason Center has a 10-year track record of providing citizens and lawmakers unbiased, nonpartisan insight into the policy issues shaping the future of the Commonwealth. More than 100 students work side-by-side with talented faculty to produce survey research and political analysis that informs decisions by citizens and lawmakers in Virginia, and increasingly around the country.

Conventional leadership development programs teach students to be better insiders. We are building new programs that will focus on the hearts and minds of our students as we train them to be values-driven, evidence-based leaders who know how to solve real problems.
