The Champlain College campus comprises The core campus consists of 52 buildings, ranging in age from the late 1800s to 2018 on 27.3 acres. Through the vision of the 2007 Master Plan, there has been a significant drive to a) build highly efficient buildings and b) renovate our Victorian era buildings to a highly efficient state. With an increase of 57% gross square footage over the past decade+, we've decreased our energy (electric and natural gas) consumption by 52%.

Students Abroad in Dublin Plant Trees to Offset Flight Carbon Emissions

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:

Champlain College operates a small campus in Dublin, Ireland that serves as a popular study abroad site. After several student research and capstone projects, the program was able to implement a tree planting project in Ireland to offset flight emissions for students' travel to and from the site. Students were able to partner with a community organization in Ireland to do some active landscape rewildling.

This effort follows on our Dublin campus being named a 2020 Finalist for the GoAbroad.com Innovation in Sustainability award. https://view.champlain.edu/2020/05/29/champlain-college-dublin-recognized-for-innovation-in-sustainability/

Finally - our Director of the Dublin campus wrote a chapter, “Carbon Footprints and Carbon Offsetting and Insetting” in a forthcoming book, Standards in Action Series: Sustainable Education Abroad- due to come out in late 2022/early 2023.
