Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Wildcat Neighborhood Farm Organic Produce Donations to Local Food Pantries
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Two new fields at CWU's Wildcat Neighborhood Farm were dedicated for growing organic produce for PUSH, a food pantry on campus, and APOYO, a food pantry based on campus that serves im/migrants, low-income communities, houseless people and CWU students. APOYO clients were consulted for the APOYO to determine which produce they would most like to receive, and they were invited to be involved in any aspect of the food production to which they wanted to contribute. Produce that was requested included peppers, tomatoes and corn. CWU has donated more than 1500 lbs. of fresh produce since 2020 to Ellensburg community food pantries. By partnering with regional food pantries and establishing regulator donations, CWU Wildcat Neighborhood Farm offers regular fresh produce to families in the community for no charge.
