Sustainability Cafes - 2019-2022

A brief description of the campaign:

An interactive cafe to explore the future of sustainability at Central Washington University. Students, staff, faculty and administration were invited to discuss the future of sustainability at CWU.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

The first Sustainability Cafe in November 2018 was an important step to anchor sustainability as a vital core function of Central Washington University. Eighty participants met during the first cafe, and organized around six sustainability related projects. Impacts resulting from the cafes included development of a sustainability website, creation of a sustainability map, development of a sustainability certificate that will begin being offered in Fall 2019, and initiation of sustainability related topics during student orientation.

Three cafes (fall quarter, winter quarter and spring quarter) were held during the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 academic years.

Earth Month 2022

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Central Washington University's Earth Month has been actively running for the past 10 years. The month of April is dedicated to the environment locally and globally. Activities at CWU include the Olmstead Spring Cleanup and the long-running Yakima River Cleanup. All of these events show concern for the environment and allow like-minded sustainability advocates meet new people.

Engage campus and community stakeholders in sustainability projects.
