A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

A list of all tenure/tenure track faculty was acquired from the office of the provost. Faculty in departments who would not be expected to conduct research were omitted from the tally (Music, Theatre Art, Art and Design). Non tenure track employees were not included in the tally because for most they do not have allocated time to conduct research. Some information on faculty conducting sustainability research was reported through the ADCO inventory that Provost Fellows Susan Kaspari and Heather Spalding conducted in conjunction with the sustainable course and learning outcomes inventory. Additional faculty conducting sustainability research was determined by doing searches in the Faculty 180 database. The remaining identification of faculty conducting sustainability research was determined by cross-referencing the 2019 STARS reporting, which was done primarily from pulling descriptions from department websites. A few additional faculty were identified as conducting sustainability research, primarily in Anthropology, Geography and Geology.
