Part 1: Institution-Wide Policies

Does the institution have written policies, guidelines or directives that seek to support sustainable purchasing across commodity categories institution-wide?:
Yes

A copy of the policies, guidelines or directives:
The policies, guidelines or directives:
CNM's Design Guidelines (updated 2019), which is the governing document for all renovations and new construction projects, includes: an introductory statement that mentions Life-Cycle Costs; references CNM's Energy Standards as a guiding principal for selecting HVAC and other systems; outlines LEED standards; preferred landscape materials; and has an entire section on sustainability. This document guides vendors in their selection regarding everything from native plant materials, specific high-efficiency light bulbs, high-efficiency HVAC systems, asks vendors to "consider the life-cycle costs of all products and ruse building and landscaping materials whenever possible" (1.2.2, j); water conserving fixtures; low VOC emitting materials and products found in CNM's Green Cleaning Policy (1.2.2, p); light reflecting roofing materials, etc. The Climate Neutrality Plan (2012) has several categories across which is establishes guidelines. It is currently being updated. https://www.cnm.edu/about/sustainability/documents/plan.pdf

Part 2: Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Does the institution employ Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) when evaluating energy- and water-using products and systems?:
Yes

Which of the following best describes the institution’s use of LCCA?:
Institution employs LCCA less comprehensively, e.g. for certain types of systems or projects and not others

A brief description of the LCCA policy and/or practices:
By state mandate, the college is required to meet at least LEED Silver standard for construction and renovation projects. If the team decides to achieve points under this category, then LCCA is applied to materials and other items.

Part 3: Commodity-Specific Sustainability Criteria

To count, the criteria must address the specific sustainability challenges and impacts associated with products/services in each category, e.g. by requiring or giving preference to multi-criteria sustainability standards, certifications and labels appropriate to the category. Broader, institution-wide policies should be reported in Part 1, above.

Chemically Intensive Products and Services

Does the institution have published sustainability criteria to be applied when evaluating chemically intensive products and services (e.g. building and facilities maintenance, cleaning and sanitizing, landscaping and grounds maintenance)?:
Yes

A brief description of the published sustainability criteria for chemically intensive products and services:
We have a campus-wide Green Cleaning Policy that is published on our SharePoint system for vendors and internal M&O Department.

Construction and Renovation

Does the institution have published sustainability criteria to be applied when evaluating construction and renovation products (e.g. furnishings and building materials)?:
Yes

A brief description of the published sustainability criteria for construction and renovation products:
The CNM Design Guidelines state that materials will be reused and recycled when possible.

Information Technology (IT)

Does the institution have published sustainability criteria to be applied when evaluating Information technology (IT) products and services (e.g. computers, imaging equipment, mobile phones, data centers and cloud services)?:
Yes

A brief description of the published sustainability criteria for IT products and services:
The institution requires (in all RFP language) that all non-Apple products meet a standard of Energy Star 5.0 (reported Gil Rivera, 2019). There is no policy in place for Apple Products, but it has been confirmed that they all meet the EPEAT gold standard.

Food Services

Does the institution have published sustainability criteria to be applied when evaluating food services (i.e. franchises, vending services, concessions, convenience stores)?:
Yes

A brief description of the published sustainability criteria for food services:
We do not have a traditional cafeteria on campus. It was shut down 4 years ago to save energy. Culinary Arts students learn business skills through the local Street Food Institute, Food Truck company and also sometimes provide the truck services to students. The Street Food Institute's vision is "For a healthy, sustainable and creative food future across New Mexico." They work with local farmers and other local organizations to promise their vision https://streetfoodinstitute.org/ The Services Agreement with Pepsi Beverages Company for Cold Beverage Vending Services has a clause in that contract regarding energy efficiencies for their equipment: 3.5 "Contractor will agree to install energy-mizers or a similar device on equipment for additional energy efficiencies" (Keith Adams, summer 2016) The Follet Bookstore contract requires at least 1/3 of the food products available for purchase to be "healthy", such as cheeses, hard boiled eggs, fruits and other fresh food (vs bagged chips, etc).

Garments and Linens

Does the institution have published sustainability criteria to be applied when evaluating garments and linens?:
