Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Vision Zero and Active Transportation Planning Committees
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
CNM has staff members who now sit on the Mid Rio Grande Council of Governments Active Transportation Committee, as well as Mayor Keller's Vision Zero Task force. This is to ensure that the streets between CNM's campuses and between CNM and other major intersections that are heavily traveled by the college community are represented. This has led to a collaboration between the City and County and CNM to enter into MOUs regarding bike shares and other street infrastructure projects. Please see attachment for a project that was presented to City Council by CNM's CLL & Sustainability Project Manager. It was approved. Additionally, CNM staff members work with these entities/committees on redefining what "safety" means for all types of pedestrians (Those with disabilities, children, elderly, walkers and bicyclists). This has resulted in an in-depth, collaborative-approach (Albuquerque Public Schools, the city, UNM, CNM, etc.) on re-establishing safe routes & intersections for new infrastructure that have been incorporated into the both the city's and the Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) master plan processes.
