Does the institution have an ongoing program or programs that offer incentives for faculty in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses?:
Yes
A brief description of the program(s), including positive outcomes during the previous three years (e.g. descriptions of new courses or course content resulting from the program):
2019 Update:
Between 2016-2019 CNM went from 55 to 154 courses recognized as sustainability related or focused, with the addition of several new courses and a few new programs that are recognized as sustainability related or focused.
The Sustainability Curriculum Committee has continued to support the strategic direction (mentioned below) developed to increase sustainability in the curriculum; Each semester they hold a workshop to assist instructors in the development and implementation of sustainability assignments into their courses. This has resulted in at least one course--IT 1010-- (all sections)to be added to the institutional catalog as a sustainability course as all sections/instructors have added sustainability as a learning objective (master syllabus). Additionally, many individual instructors in other disciplines have incorporated assignments as a result. The curriculum committee is also responsible for searching for and vetting other courses that were not previously considered for sustainability (either new or flew previously flew under the radar). This has resulted in 26 more courses to be added to the count as either sustainability focused or related (also found in the catalog unless special topics courses)since 2016. Additionally, an NSF grant was awarded to the college to create an Applied Technologies Program for sustainable construction, which resulted in the Green Building Technology Certificate Program and several additional sustainability courses (a part of the previously mentioned 26).
The 2016-2020 College Strategic Direction outlines measures for sustainability such as increasing sustainability in the curriculum by at least 25%.
