Most sustainability focused courses do have an identifiable learning outcome on the syllabus or have otherwise been specified as sustainability-related through the vetting o by department deans, chairs and/or by the Sustainability Curriculum Committee, and have therefore been given a "Sustainability Attribute" in the Catalog, which is what OPIE used to determine whether or not graduates have learned about sustainability (as a course outcome). The sustainability questions that enable a course or program to be marked as "sustainability focused " is based on whether a student was ever enrolled in and passed a course that was sustainability focused. This data was gathered by the Office for Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OPIE, Linda Martin).
