A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
100% of Faculty and Staff attend New Employee Orientation at CNM. Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) offers a three phased approach to orienting new employees to the CNM culture. The goals to orient a new employee at CNM include: 1) provide new employees with the essentials to do their job; 2) alleviate new job apprehension; 3) increase morale; 4) increase productivity; and 5) increase retention. CNM requires all new and rehired employees, upon hire, to attend a mandatory orientation from the Human Resources (HR) Department. CNM’s new employees begin their first day of employment in a morning of orientation conducted by HR and Payroll experts. This orientation is held every Monday morning and additional offerings are held, if needed, at the beginning of new semesters. The Phase I: New Employee Orientation (NEO) event covers topics to include, but not limited to, introductions, the CNM strategic direction and facts, employee benefit options, payroll information, policies and procedures, parking, and a tour of the CNM campus. Mandatory training instructions are also provided to new employees on this day to include Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Information Security, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Approving Employee Time Sheets, Campus Safety and Emergency Response, Defensive Driving, and Preventing Sexual Harassment/Sexual Harassment Awareness. Currently, CNM is incorporating into the Phase I: NEO information and explanation of the utilization of myCNM (login required) website: https://portal.cnm.edu/cp/home/displaylogin. Once an employee completes orientation, the new employee will have access to online self-service options to either view information or change information such as employee time sheet entry and approval; benefits and deductions information including retirement, health, flexible spending, miscellaneous, benefit statement; pay information including direct deposit allocation, earnings and deductions history, or pay stubs; tax forms such as the W-4 and W-2; and jobs summary, leave balances, personal information, and faculty course acknowledgment. This information is available online for the employee to access 24/7 at their convenience. Phase II of the New Employee Orientation is customized by each department/school. A Phase II-NEO checklist is provided to Hiring Officials to remind them to discuss with the new employee topics such as, but not limited to, the new employee’s job, work environment, expectations, and College and departmental/school policies and procedures. This standardized checklist is provided to ensure a consistent approach in orienting a new employee at the departmental/school level ensuring that the employee is aware of resources available to them during their employment at CNM. NEO Phase III provides participants an opportunity to hear from CNM’s executive leadership regarding the College’s vision of “Changing Lives and Building Community” and the CNM values and mission. In addition, senior level leadership covers functions such as, but not limited to, Marketing and Communications, Information and Technology Services and Security Services, CNM Foundation, Disability Resource Center, Student Conduct, Security and Safety, and CNM Connect.
