The Sustainability Leadership Committee
The Sustainability Leadership Committee is a committee made up of students representing a wide variety of sustainability and environmental focused groups on campus that come together to discuss issues on campus and unite sustainability efforts across campus. This group also plans events and presentations for the campus community. Examples of this work include planning guest speakers and Earth Week events.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
Central Sustainability is a platform dedicated to making the CMU community more sustainable through projects, policy, and programming. Central sustainability has a focus on education, collaboration, and institutional growth to better Central Michigan University's campus.

Since its launch in May 2020, Central Sustainability has been successful in carrying out a number of sustainability projects and initiatives. CS has also grown tremendously in the past few years with a full office space as well as 6 student workers.

Notable accomplishments include:
The passage of a university Sustainable Purchasing Policy.
The on-campus Ethnobotanical Garden.
Establishment of a university sustainability website.
Submission of the STARS reports, which earned a prestigious “Gold” rating in 2020.
Expanding the composting program on campus.

Central Sustainability works take a holistic approach to sustainability at Central Michigan University. Their main function is to identify all of the sustainable efforts across different departments of campus and unite them to strengthen the impact. The approach of Central Sustainability is to target efforts in academics, facilities, administration, students, and the community.

Central Sustainability Coordinators work on primarily social and cultural sustainability projects. Much of this work is done very independently and requires a lot of creative problem solving and brainstorming. Coordinators have a passion for sustainability and want to make a meaningful difference on campus through their work. Another task of this position is presenting and tabling in order to educate the campus community about sustainability. Overall, responsibilities include creative planning, programming, and community outreach on campus.

Job description for the sustainability officer position (2nd position):
Central Michigan University Facilities Management hires sustainability students to work on university sustainability reporting, waste diversion documentation, and waste reduction education projects. Some projects that have worked on in this role include administering CMU Campus Race to Zero Waste, charting CMU's Municipal Solid Waste data, planning special waste disposal drives and authoring the CMU Sustainable Purchasing Policy.
