Total full-time equivalent student enrollment:
12,207
Full-time equivalent of employees:
2,054
Part 1. Student commute modal split
Yes
Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
45.97
A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
For this credit, Parking Services at Central Michigan University, provided a break down of all different types of parking permits that were sold during the 2023 fall semester. These permits were broken down by permit type (commuter, faculty/staff, and residential permits). The total student commuter permits sold were then counted up and divided by the total number of full-time students. This number amounted to 54.03%. This represents the number of students who use a vehicle as their assumed main means of transportation. Therefore, the remaining 45.97% of the student population is assumed to be using transportation methods that do not involve single-occupancy vehicles such as walking, non-motorized/micro-mobility devices, or public transportation services. CMU also offers I-Ride buses throughout the Mount Pleasant community. The I-Ride fleet of 46 buses is equipped with either a lift or ramped entrance for persons using mobility devices. The bus system is available 359 days a year and offers shared ride curb-to-curb service. There are 14 on-campus bus stops and an additional 10 stops to off-campus apartments, making this an opportunity for even off-campus students to get to campus without a single-occupancy vehicle.
Part 2. Employee commute modal split
Yes
Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
4.25
A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
For this credit, Parking Services at Central Michigan University, provided a break down of all different types of parking permits that were sold during the 2022 fall semester. These permits were broken down by permit type (commuter, faculty/staff, and residential permits). The total faculty/staff permits sold were then counted up and divided by the total number of employees. This number amounted to 71.76%. This represents the number of employees who use a vehicle as their assumed main means of transportation. Therefore, the remaining 28.24% of the employee population is assumed to be utilizing different means of transportation such as walking, man-powered vehicles, or public transportation services.
