Central Michigan University has a published set of goals in the Sustainability is Central reports that provide information on campus' resources and initiatives.

Central Michigan University has undertaken the following initiatives:
*Increasing capacity of storage and transport infrastructure to handle storm water in a an appropriate manner.
*Rain gardens on campus to decrease negative effects of urban runoff
*Porous parking lots to decrease the amount of impervious surfaces on campus and to decrease the amount of salt utilized for melting ice during the winter
*Natural ponds areas to use as as irrigation-creation of ponds/wetlands to utilize natural features/systems to collect, store and utilize storm water for later irrigation projects
* Minimizing irrigation, campus wide, due to adequate rainfall in the area
* installation of a green roof on the Education & Human Services building, for collection and utilization of rainwater, thermal insulation and protecting the roof membrane. This practice protects the roof's 25-30 year membrane and turns it into a 50 year roof membrane
