Innovative Solar Power Implementation
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
CMU has an extremely effective solar power energy system which was designed and implemented by CMU facilities director of utilities and energy Michael Walton. The solar panels are placed on top of the Education and Human Services Building. When it is sunny, the energy produced is immediately used to heat and cool CMU buildings. This is coupled with steam powered energy in which a heating and cooling system which rarely takes over only if no more energy is provided from the solar panels. This innovation by CMU facilities has saved money, nonrenewable energy, and contributed to a greener campus and Earth.
