A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :

Central Michigan University has a department dedicated to Institutional Research. This department provided the information regarding the total number of academic colleges, departments and courses. In regards to the total number of courses offered: there are a total of 1,529 classes designated at a course level below 500, only appropriate for undergraduate students. There are 697 courses designated at a course level of 600 or above, only appropriate for graduate level students. However, there are a total of 402 courses designated at a course level between 500-599, which can be taken by both graduate level or undergraduate students. These 402 classes, leveled in the 500's have been added to graduate level classes, resulting in a total number of 1,099 courses offered at graduate level. These courses have not been double counted.

The methodology for gathering data regarding courses is as follows: Each course is counted once, regardless of how many sections are offered. These courses are measured over one academic year. This methodology is exact for total course numbers, course numbers that are specifically sustainability courses, as well as course numbers for courses that offer sustainability components. Any course which is offered as an undergraduate (U) and Graduate (G) option was only counted as a graduate level course in the totals.

Central Michigan University has identified sustainability courses and courses that include sustainability in accordance with the definitions provided by AASHE, under "sustainability course offerings."

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
